Have you ever looked up the definition of clutter on Google? Clutter is defined as "a collection of things lying about in an untidy mass." I'm sure you already knew that, but clutter can also be defined in many other ways. Read below for other definitions. Do any of these definitions resonate with you?
1. Clutter is anything that is disorganized. Clutter is anything that you don't need or love. Clutter is too much stuff in too small a space. (Becoming Minimalist)
2. Trash, just useless trash that is lying around that takes up space. (Urban Dictionary)
3. Clutter is delayed decision. (Organise My House)
4. Clutter is any distraction that gets in the way of a remarkable life. Clutter doesn’t have to be physical — you can have time clutter or mental clutter or even bad processes that qualify as clutter. (Unclutterer)
5. “Clutter is not just physical stuff. It’s old ideas, toxic relationships and bad habits. Clutter is anything that does not support your better self.” (Eleanor Brownn)
6. Clutter is anything incomplete, anything broken or needing repair, anything messy or unclean, anything overwhelming, chaotic or disorganized, anything stuffed or overflowing, anything stagnant or paralyzing, anything confusing, cloudy or unclear, anything that is challenging to manage. (Sofia Alvim via Huffington Post)
7. Clutter is the physical manifestation of unmade decisions fueled by procrastination. (Christina Scalise)
I wonder then, do you think it's possible to live a truly clutter-free life? What can we achieve if we are not bogged down by clutter, by delayed decisions, by messiness? Personally, clutter for me still revolves around things, although I've learned to let go of a lot of old beliefs and ideas which has opened me to newer opportunities.
